Dennis and his team have a reputation for creating award winning designs and unique branded environments.

Starting out with an interest in visual design, technical drawing, wood and metal work in high school, Dennis went on to study a Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) at UTS, achieving First Class Honours in Interior Design and Furniture Design.

His design interest and expertise extends beyond events and exhibits to include bespoke furniture and lighting for global brands, as well as his own label Abalos Design.

I first met Dennis when we were studio neighbours in The Chocolate Factory, Chippendale. He outgrew the space and has gone on to bigger and better things, including production and build capabilities.

When I ask him what he attributes the growth and success of his business to, Dennis says “Finding what you are really good at and doubling/tripling that service offering”. For his business this has meant upscaling the design team and training each member himself to capitalise on their already good reputation in the industry.

He also has a focus on quality assurance and standard operating procedures, to ensure the work is consistently good.

Dennis says, despite building his business on word of mouth initially, recent investments in digital marketing, video and photography and SEO have paid off. Combine this with the ability to adapt their design service back to office fit-outs, display suites and show rooms instead of events during 2020, and Dennis and Colab are well placed to continue their growth into the future.
