Studio or Location?
Where your shoot takes place depends on a number of factors such as the style of photography, the subject nature, available space and lighting requirements.
Indoor locations
Graynoise can come to your location to shoot with portable lighting and a range of background options if required. We may arrange a site visit prior to your shoot to determine whether your location is suitable, and to plan shots and settings.
For simple portraits or headshots a minimum of 3m x 3m space, with relatively clear floor area, is required. This would be considered a tight working environment. For best results a ceiling height of at least 2.8m is also preferred. For full-length, group or fashion photography, considerably more space is often required.
Outdoor locations
The right outdoor location can add significantly to the look of a shoot. The downsides are that you’re at the mercy of the elements, and there may be additional fees from local governments or authorities involved. Outdoor shoots often require assistants to hold reflectors, manage passers-by, and maintain safety, particular if shooting in a public space.
Studio shoots
For product photography, headshots or fashion lookbooks, a studio shoot is often more practical. Studio shoots allow the photographer to have fine control of the lighting and environment, which helps with the consistent output required for this type of work.
